Philosophy

For us we have always had a firm belief not only in the preservation of these bygone architectural beauties, but in the notion that we are an integral part of reducing the waste that will eventually head to a landfill.

Island Girl Salvage believes that we can reuse, revive and reinvent each item so that it can be incorporated into any décor. We see outstanding possibilities in the use of these unique pieces in new construction, furniture building, and any remodeling project... and anything else the imagination can conjure.

It may not always be the first thing you think of when you hear the word recycle but the architectural salvage industry is doing just that. Not in the traditional sense but there is no doubt about it this is recycling.

Aura Paints Revisited

Okay I am getting very close to the sold category on this stuff. I went out and got four sample jars in fairly dark colors. A long while ago I had started this project of painting an old school desk but was never very happy with it. So I figured it was the perfect piece to test this out on. I did sand it down first this time. The color I chose is Dinner Party. A very dark red. I have gotten one coat on the top. Judge for yourself. While I still think I would stick with two coats for coverage, the color with the one coat is exactly as it is in the jar. No primer or anything. I put the lid in the picture so you can see the color of paint as it is before you apply. Pics No coat, one coat two coats
